This is a charity very close to my heart. St Christopher’s supports children and young people in care by providing a safe home where they can thrive.
I’m grateful for the support I receive from the business community and the faith that our clients have in us.
In 1988, I felt the warmth of another type of belief and support. When things got tough at home, I was well looked after by St Christopher’s, who are a charity providing a roof, support and proactive assistance that grows independent young people. This helps develop technical, vocational and soft skills, which they will need when there is a bump or a fork in the road. More about my story is here.
My St Christopher’s room was compact and bijou, as you can see in the picture below. That was a couple of weeks in to my 30 years in the insurance industry. I now have the grey hairs to prove it. Due to a chance networking encounter, I was honoured to speak at St Christopher’s Christmas update after they asked me to let their supporters know what I had been up to since then. I am sure the impressive young man who also spoke at the event, who currently works in fast food, as I once did, will continue to work hard & get the type of support all growing girls & boys love and thrive on.
I’m looking to support St Christopher’s young people with mentoring, work experience and apprenticeship opportunities rather than just donations. I think the business community can help young people gain the confidence that will help them to retain their independence. The mentoring opportunities the business community can offer helps people of all ages weigh up their options. My heart feels right with St Chris’s. I’m sure we all have a soft spot for our own reasons.
